The U16 SUPA Championships were held on Sunday 3rd July 2005 at Longdole Polo Club by kind permission of Major Christopher Hanbury. The day started damp and dull but the sun came out just before play started and the polo was bright and crisp. We were lucky to play on one of the new grounds and it proved an excellent surface for the U16 teams to show off their skills. Dan Banks umpired for the whole day and was impressed by the standard of play especially from the many children he has coached!! Roddy Seymour Williams volunteered as the official goal judge and waved one of the SUPA flags which was three times as tall as himself! There were six teams who were divided into two American Tournaments. In AMT A Millfield A ( -6 ) proved too strong for Dean Close and Cheltenham Ladies College. AMT B was a more closely fought battle. Marlborough ( -8 ) beating top seeds Sherborne ( -6 ) in the opening round and thus coming out on top of Sherborne and Millfield B. This meant that Marlborough met Millfield A in the Final. Millfield A showed no mercy, played very well and became the first U16 Champions. They won The Periquetto Polo Trophy donated by the Beim Family and named after their first polo pony. The Most Promising Player was Patrick Selfe of Sherborne School and the Most Valuable Player was Saffron Hutchinson of Millfield. A good day was had by all. RESULTS
