U16 TOURNAMENT REPORT
25th
June 2006 ,Longdole Polo Club
The National Schools U16 Polo Tournament held on Sunday 25th June 2006
at Longdole Polo Club was well supported. Our thanks go to the Hanbury
family for allowing us to use the facilities at Longdole and to Rob and
Sue Cudmore and their helpful and hardworking staff.
Sixteen teams converged on the Brunei Ground to compete in two
competitive divisions of 8. The dominant teams coming from Sherborne
School. In Division Two Sherborne Yellow beat Rugby School by one goal,
after Rugby had put up a good fight.
In Division One Sherborne Blue ( George Allen, George Franklin, Freddie
Horne and Alex Vent) battled with Millfield A (Harry Medina, Jack
Mesquita, Alex McGregor and Hugo Seccombe). In this final chukka of the
day, play went from one end of the ground to the other but no goals
were scored. This meant a run down as a finale to the day. Sherborne
Blue won the run down and became worthy National U16 Champions
and receipients of the Periquetto Polo Trophy.
Dominic Heywood from Shrewsbury was voted to be The Most Promising
Player in the Tournament. Jack Mesquita of Millfield School received
the award for The Most Valuable Player in the Tournament.
As always, many thanks are due to the people who supported the
tournament. SUPA thanks the Hanburys and Longdole Polo Club. Also
thanks go to Jilly and Tony Emerson of SATS
,our generous sponsors of the prizes. Also the umpire,
timekeeper, scorer and our photographer of the day, Kerry Maxwell,
whose pictures can be seen and purchased from www.kerrymaxwell.com
