An Exceptionally High
Standard of Play
The SUPA Senior Schools Novice Tournament was held at Longdole Polo
Club on 11th March 2007. Everyone agreed that the standard of play was
the highest that anyone had ever seen in the Novice Section. So, well
done to the players, the coaches and the managers. The weather was kind
to us. There was a keen wind but everyone was grateful for no rain. The
Longdole arena played well and our thanks go to Christopher and
Bridget Hanbury, Rob and Sue Cudmore and all their staff.
Every team played well and improved dramatically as the tournament
progressed. A number of players had not ridden before September let
alone played polo. SUPA would like to congratulate them all. The final
was between Cheltenham College A and Heathfield St Mary's. They took it
in turns to score the first 4 goals and then Cheltenham College pulled
away towards the end of the chukka. The final score was 5-2.
Congratulations to Cheltenham College on their win.
SATS were our sponsors and
Jilly Emerson kindly presented their wonderful prizes. She had also
been timekeeping and scoring with Pam Cowley so many thanks go to them
both. Also thanks to Dan Banks, who said that he thoroughly enjoyed
umpiring such a good standard of novice polo. He was grateful to have
been mounted - in previous years he has umpired on foot. Kerry Maxwell
took some great action shots - check her web site
www.kerrymaxwell.com. Mike
Hobday provided a lively commentary for our last four chukkas. He
was nearly drowned out by the Bradfield supporters who won the
Noisiest Supporters award!! We look forward to seeing them again and
all the other supporters and participants in Sundays excellent
afternoon of polo.
